Stress Related Guidance & Support

There are a variety of resources available to University personnel to help them deal with work related stress:

Human Resources personnel can provide confidential advice on work related stress issues.

There is a large bank of Human Resources policy and guidance covering topics such as Dignity at Work, Family Friendly policies and Flexible Working Practices.

Organisational & Professional Development services offer a wide range of courses - many of the workshops are particularly relevant to coping with work related stress.

If stress starts to have an adverse effect on your health you may be referred, or you may refer yourself, to Occupational Health. Fully qualified staff offer a confidential service and impartial advice on all aspects of work-related ill health.

The Counselling Service is open to students and staff and offers friendly, supportive and confidential one-to-one sessions.

Safety Services publishes policy and guidance on the management of stress at work and periodically runs courses on stress risk assessment.

Several members of University staff have been trained as Well Being Contacts. Names and contact details are posted on notice boards throughout SLS.

The benefits of regular exercise are undisputed. We are very fortunate here at the University to have great facilities, a good range of classes and an enthusiastic team in the Institute of Sport & Exercise. Being just across the road from SLS, it couldn't be more convenient.
