Tel.: 01382 384108

email: kpmlabib@dundee.ac.uk

Karim was an undergraduate student at Cambridge University and spent the summer of 1989 in the lab of Ron Laskey, studying DNA replication in frog egg extracts. He then did his PhD studies with Paul Nurse at the University of Oxford (1990-1993), before a one year period with Sergio Moreno in Salamanca as an EMBO post-doctoral fellow (1993-1994).  Karim then spent two years back in Oxford with Stephen Kearsey (1995-1997) before joining John Diffley's lab at the Clare Hall research Laboratories in London (1997-2001).  In 2001, Karim started his own lab at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research in Manchester (now CRUK Manchester research institute), and in 2013 relocated his group to sunny Dundee, to join the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit, in the School of Life Sciences.

Tom Deegan (postdoc in Karim Labib's lab)

Tom Deegan

Post-doc

Tel.: 01382 386251

email: tdeegan@dundee.ac.uk

Tom did his undergraduate studies at Oxford University (2006-2010) and was introduced to DNA replication research in the lab of Stephen Kearsey. Tom then did his PhD with John Diffley at the Clare Hall research Laboratories in London (2010-2015), and studied the role of the initiation factor Sld3.  Tom joined our lab in 2015 and aims to study how disassembly of the CMG helicase is regulated at the end of chromosome replication.

Cecile Evrin (postdoc in Karim Labib's lab)

Cecile Evrin

Post-doc

Tel.: 01382 386411

email: cevrin@dundee.ac.uk

After completing her PhD in Paris (2003-2006), Cecile moved to Christian Speck's lab in London as a post-doc (2007-2011).  Cecile joined us initially in Manchester and then in Dundee, and is interested in the contribution of replisome components to histone processing at DNA replication forks.

Ryo Fujisawa

Postdoc

Tel.: 01382 386251

email: rfujisawa@dundee.ac.uk

Ryo first visited our lab for four months in 2017, while he was a PhD student at Kyushu University in Japan, in the group of Professor Toshiki Tsurimoto.  During his PhD, Ryo studied how the Ctf18-RFC complex works together with DNA polymerase epsilon. Ryo  joined us in Dundee as a postdoctoral fellow in April 2018, and is interested in studying the metazoan replisome

Mateusz Gregorczyk

PhD rotation student

Tel.: 01382 386251

email: mgregorczyk@dundee.ac.uk

Mateusz is interested in genome stability and joined the MRC PPU in 2017.  He did his first PhD rotation project in the group of John Rouse, and then joined our lab at the end of February 2018.  Mateusz is currently studying the regulation of CMG helicase disassembly during the mammalian cell cycle.

Ye Hong

Postdoc

Tel.: 01382 386411

email: yyhong@dundee.ac.uk

Ye's PhD studies were shared between Shandong University in China and the Max Plank Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Germany. Ye has long been interested in recombination, and in 2011 he joined Anton Gartner's group in Dundee, so that he could learn to use C. elegans as a model system.  Ye joined our lab in 2017, and is now using his experience with C. elegans to study the role of Ctf4 during worm development.

Thanh Le

Postdoc

Tel.: 01382 386411

email: ttle@dundee.ac.uk

During her PhD studies, Thanh studied bacterial DNA replication at the University of Nara in Japan, in the group of Professor Hisaji Maki. Thanh joined our group in November 2017, and is interested in the mechanism of CMG ubiquitylation during DNA replication termination in mammals.

Pragya Mukherjee (PhD student in Karim Labib's lab)

Pragya Mukherjee

PhD student

Tel.: 01382 386395

email: ppmukherjee@dundee.ac.uk

Pragya studied at the University of Delhi and then worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science Eduction and Research in Pune, India, before joining our lab in 2014. Pragya is studying the role of SCFDia2 in disassembly of the CMG helicase at the end of chromosome replication.

Remi Sonneville (postdoc in Karim Labib's lab)

Remi Sonneville

Post-doc

Tel.: 01382 386395

email: rsonneville@dundee.ac.uk

Remi was a graduate student with Pierre Gonzy at ISREC in Lausanne, and studied the role of Cullin 2 during meiosis in  the nematode C. elegans. Remi then moved to Dundee as a post-doc with Julian Blow, in collaboration with Anton Gartner (2007-2014).  Remi was the first person to develop tools with which to study the CMG helicase in vivo, during the early embryonic cell cycles of C. elegans. Remi joined our lab in 2014 and showed that CMG helicase disassembly in metazoa is regulated by the ubiquitin ligase CUL-2_LRR-1.  Remi also discovered a new mitotic pathway for CMG disassembly, which requires a factor that is mutated in various human cancers, and forms the focus of his current work.

Fabrizio Villa

Senior Research Associate

Tel.: 01382 386395

email: fvilla@dundee.ac.uk

Fabrizio studied in Milan, but then came to Dundee to pursue his PhD studies in biochemistry and structural biology, with Daan van Aalten and Dario Alessi.   After graduating in 2006, Fabrizio moved to the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, initially as a postdoc with Andrea Musacchio (2006-2010) and then as a staff scientist.  In 2014, Fabrizio moved back to Dundee to join our group, where his work has focussed on the role of the Ctf4 protein in the eukaryotic replisome, both in yeast and in mammalian cells.

Yisui Xia

Postdoc

Tel.: 01382 386411

email: y.y.xia@dundee.ac.uk

Yisui studied at China Agricultural University in Beijing, where he was a PhD student with Huiqiang Lou and studied budding yeast DNA replication.  Yisui joined our lab in 2016 and is using C. elegans to study the regulation of CMG helicase disassembly in metazoa.
