Aim
- To provide and maintain Apple Macintosh desktop and laptop computers of a known good configuration, as promoted in the Life Sciences Computing support blog.
- To provide a networked home directory for all desktop machines.
- To provide an authenticated login for laptop users.
- With access to College of Life Sciences and University of Dundee applications and services.
Service Description
- The College of Life Sciences supports and maintains over 250 Macintosh computers for use by staff and students within the MSI/WTB/JBC Complex.
- User login is authenticated against the College LDAP service.
- Users login as a Network User, mounting their home directory directly from the College storage server.
- Laptop users login using a local account based on their Life Sciences Directory account credentials.
- A standard suite of applications is available to be centrally deployed and updated using Apple Remote Desktop.
User Responsibilities
- Report all faults promptly to the LSC helpdesk, providing as much information as possible including the asset number of the equipment and the application being used, or task being attempted.
- Read supplied documentation and follow good practice guidelines.
- Take full responsibility for any user files on the computer placed outside the user home directory – e.g. in /Users/Shared.
