I came to the University in 2003 as a Teaching Specialist in Human Physiology and worked as a Lecturer (Teaching and Scholarship) in Life Sciences until 2014. I had teaching and administrative responsibilities in the Schools of Life Sciences, Medicine and Dentistry. I had various administrative responsibilities and was Life Sciences Coordinator for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery pre-and para clinical years, co-convenor of the BSc(Hons) Biomedical Sciences degree programme, module manager and convenor of various undergraduate modules, advisor of studies and senior admissions tutor for life sciences.
In 2014 I became the University's full time Athena SWAN project coordinator. I lead the University's 'Institutional' Athena SWAN activity and work closely with 'Departmental' self-assessment teams in their Athena SWAN work. I am currently working with all nine of our academic schools to progress their Athena SWAN agendas. All five of our STEMM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Schools have current bronze awards and all of our AHSSBL (arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law) Schools are working towards their first application. Our school of Humanities has an application pending.
I work closely with colleagues in the wider sector and at the Equality Challenge Unit where I regularly chair Athena SWAN assessment panels. I liaise with colleagues across the HEI sector and am currently the elected chair of the Scottish Athena SWAN network group (2016-2018).
