19 Oct 2021Scientists at the University of Dundee have developed a new technology that provides a greater understanding into the biology of ‘undruggable’ diseases. Cells are composed of thousands of interacting proteins and their malfunction is a primary mechanism of disease development. Drug discovery scientists’ goal is to identify these aberrant proteins, understand their function and develop novel compounds to target them.

08 Oct 2021An industry-wide consortium, led by producer organisation G’s Growers and supported by the James Hutton Institute, the University of Dundee and James Hutton Limited, has won a UKRI-BBSRC collaborative training partnership award (CTP)to provide a £3.6 million postgraduate training programme in sustainable agricultural innovation. The programme has been co-developed by the Institute as part of its collaboration with the University of Cambridge, the Crop Science Centre, NIAB and leading UK universities.

The University Spinout Report 2021, carried out by GovGrant, names Dundee as the UK's sixth most successful at commercialising innovation. The University spawned 1.5% of the UK’s spinouts with these companies raising £325.7 million over the past two decades.

08 Oct 2021A University of Dundee-led programme that will train the next generation of barley researchers has received a multi-million pound investment. The £9 million Barley Industrial Training Network (BARIToNE) programme is a Collaborative Training Partnership (CTP) led by the University, Scotch Whisky Research Institute, International Barley Hub, and supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and industry partners.

07 Oct 2021Professor Sir Philip Cohen, one of the major influences in establishing Dundee as an international centre of excellence in life sciences research, has marked his 50th anniversary of joining the University of Dundee. Sir Philip is now looking to encourage the next generation of researchers with the launch of a charity to support PhD scholarships for the next 24 years, in memory of his late wife Tricia.
