Forensic and Medical Art Research Group reveal the face of Mary, Queen of Scots for national exhibition

The face of Mary, Queen of Scots, as she would have looked at the time of her reign, has been brought back to life by a renowned team of experts from the University of Dundee.

The team were commissioned to recreate a 3D virtual sculpture of Mary’s face for a major new exhibition on her life that opens at the National Museum of Scotland this Friday. They have previously worked on major projects to reconstruct the faces of Bach, Cleopatra’s sister, Simon of Sudbury and Richard III among others.

Wellcome Trust grant supports new tools for imaging development, aging and disease

Researchers at the College of Life Sciences have been awarded a Wellcome Trust Grant to further build on the College’s success as an international centre of excellence in the fields of developmental and cell biology. The £800,000 multi-user equipment grant supports the purchase of a multi-photon laser-scanning microscope especially suited for development of cutting edge tissue imaging approaches.

Caroline Wilkinson receives RSE Senior Prize for Public Engagement

Professor Caroline Wilkinson has been awarded the Senior Prize for Public Engagement from the Royal Society of Edinburgh (supported by the James Weir Foundation). Caroline Wilkinson, Professor of Cranial Identification at the University of Dundee, was given the award for her extensive work in public engagement, which she has been involved in for over 15 years.
