Making STEM happen in secondary Schools

Are you interested in a science career outside of research? If you are thinking about education or science communication/public outreach, then this is the internship for you.  Staff in the Carnelley building will help you to create your own video-led chemistry and biology practical classes and generate a bank of results from them. These new educational resources, created by you, will be used in local schools whilst visits to the University of Dundee are still limited due to COVID19. They will provide our local secondary school pupils with an amazing first-person perspective of how core laboratory techniques are used in investigative based projects and how the results generated can be analysed and interpreted.

During the internship you will spend your time developing and expanding your skill set and knowledge in several different areas, including:

  • Knowledge of current Biology and Chemistry topics in the current National level 5, Higher and Advanced Higher curriculums
  • Core laboratory practical skills in Biology and Chemistry
  • Videography techniques
  • Film editing techniques
  • Communication, organisational and leadership skills.

No specialist knowledge is required – just a keen interest in the project area. If you are interested, contact Dr Sharon Matthews (s.matthews@dundee) to discuss this opportunity further or apply via our application portal above choosing Dr Matthews as your Supervisor.
