In the recent round of applications for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowships, the School had a 100% success rate! Over the coming months, three scientists from across the globe will commence their new research projects. Angus Cowan from Melbourne, Australia and Claudia Diehl from Aachen, Germany will join Professor Alessio Ciulli’s lab while Angela Harrison, also from Melbourne, will join Professor Angus Lamond’s team.

A host of fun activities aimed at promoting STEM subjects to girls and young women launches in Dundee today. As part of Dundee Women’s Festival (Friday 5 to Sunday 14 March 2021) and International Women’s Day (Monday 8 March 2021), Dundee Science Centre is teaming up with women scientists at the University of Dundee to promote STEM subjects to younger children.

Scotland’s next wave of entrepreneurs have been unveiled as the University of Dundee crowned the winners of its annual competition for business concepts, some of whom come from the School. Thirteen enterprising students and staff members from across the University walked away with a share of a record £38,000 prize fund after the winners of Venture 2021 were announced.

Work to build on Dundee’s world-class expertise in biomedical sciences is set to begin in earnest after the ‘Growing the Tay Cities Biomedical Cluster’ project was officially signed off by the Tay Cities Region Joint Committee today (February 19). The project will help the post-COVID-19 recovery through the development of new medicines, innovative medical technologies and the provision of high-quality new jobs, according to the University of Dundee academics leading it.

Matthew Parker and Giulia Saredi have been awarded SULSA ECR development funding in the first round of the scheme. The scheme is aimed at helping postdocs with two or more years post-PhD experience develop their own projects and begin the process of becoming independent researchers. The money is used to upskill, start new collaborations, or generate pilot data.

Wellcome Leap (Leap), a U.S.-based non-profit organisation founded by the Wellcome Trust to accelerate innovations that benefit global health, today announced the first participants in the newly established Leap Health Breakthrough Network.
