A Life Sciences scientist has been awarded £1.4 million from Cancer Research UK to develop research that could bring a ceasefire to cellular warfare taking place within our DNA that can cause blood cancers such as Leukaemia. Dr Kasper Rasmussen is one of only five researchers this year to have been awarded a prestigious Career Development Fellowship by the charity.

In a new study, researchers from the University of Copenhagen and EMBL in Heidelberg have learned how a specific genetic mutation affects the maturation of blood cells in mouse models. Leukaemia patients often have a mutation in this gene, often seen before the disease sets in. The researchers are working on a strategy for treating the mutation.

The newest laboratories in the School have been established in the Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression.
