School hosted Royal Society of Chemistry Perkin Meeting

The School hosted the 45th Scottish Regional Meeting of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Organic Division on 11th January. The conference is traditionally called the "Perkin Meeting”, and it brings together all the organic chemists in Scotland for a 1 day meeting every year.  It includes the Organic Chemistry Departments of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Herriot-Watt, St Andrews, Aberdeen and Dundee.

Over 300 researchers from all Scottish Universities attended the meeting that included a top list of invited academic speakers, one per each University, three selected student/postdoc talks, and 39 poster presentations.

The Plenary Lecture entitled 'Organic Chemistry in Fragment Based Drug Discovery and Chemical Biology' was given by Tom Heightman from Astex Pharmaceuticals.

Posters prizes were awarded to:

  • First Prize: SD Alexander, University of Glasgow
  • Second Prize: Steven Kay & Jayde McLellan, University of Strathclyde
  • Third Prize: R Pittway, University of St Andrews
