The Artist and the Exhibition

Aitken has worked for several years on projects that involve collaboration with scientists, particularly in the area of biology.

She presents a series of images of women who work in the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee. These women work at levels ranging from the post-doctoral to the professorial and are all engaged in ground-breaking science.

The exhibition takes place in the reception area of the Medical Sciences Institute, part of the College of Life Sciences; a transitory space used not only by researchers, but also undergraduate students taking the first steps on their scientific careers.

The Project

The exhibition is linked to a wider project – a collaboration between the artist and postdoctoral researchers at CLS, Emma Compton and Nicola Philips - looking at the potential career paths open to scientists who study to doctorate level.

A website, video and publication will be completed late in 2013 that will give examples of the career paths in science.

This exhibition is part of Dundee Women In Science Festival, the world’s only festival celebrating the achievements of women in science.
