I obtained my HNC in Biological Sciences from the University of Abertay in Dundee and took up a position in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of St Andrews. In 1992 I started working with Ron Hay in the then Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of St Andrews. In 1998 we moved within St Andrews to the new Centre for Biomolecular Sciences and in 2005 we moved to the University of Dundee.
