Meet the team

Inke Näthke
Professor of Epithelial Biology in the Division of Cell and Developmental Biology
+44 (0)1382 385821
Inke Näthke, Professor of Epithelial Biology, received her training at San Jose State University in California, the University of California San Francisco, Stanford and Harvard Medical Schools. She enjoys cell biology and likes bringing together ideas from diverse fields. She also enjoys using the inherent beauty of biological structures in health and disease for art projects such as the Wellcome Trust-funded "Designs for Life" project at the University of Dundee.
She is a member of various committees that serve the interest of the community including the Women in Cell Biology for the American Society of Cell Biology, Council of the American Society of Cell Biology, Training Board for cancer Research UK, Wellcome Trust funding committee: Molecules, Genes & Cells and she is the Chair of the Management team for the Dundee Cancer Centre. She regularly participates in public outreach events for science and frequently represents Cancer Research UK researchers at fund raising events.
Outside the lab, she enjoys Yoga and her two children (view the JCB profile).

Paul Appleton
Senior Research Associate
+44 (0)1382 385825
Paul is interested in all things involving microscopy and has applied microscopy techniques to many scientific fields including marine biology and parasitology before finally settling on cancer research.
When not shut in a dark room looking at pieces of gut, Paul enjoys family life and trying to keep his large garden under control.
Dina Dikovskaya
Postdoctoral Research Assistant
+44 (0)1382 385079
Dina studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the phenomenon of chromosomal instability a common feature of colorectal cancers with mutations in APC. Her particular focus is on defects in mitotic spindles.
Outside the lab she spends time with her family, enjoys traveling, singing and photography, sometimes all of them simultaneously.

Daniel Klotz
PhD Student
+44 (0)1382 385079
Daniel is a student in the Wellcome Trust 4-year PhD programme. He joined the Näthke lab in October 2008. His PhD project aims to understand how and why cell death varies in APC-deficient cells in response to chemotherapeutic agents. Ultimately this knowledge will help to identify compounds that specifically kill APC-deficient tumour cells.
When he is not busy destroying cells in the lab he enjoys sports, mountain climbing and socialising.

Scott Nelson
Postdoctoral Research Assistant
+44 (0)1382 385825
Scott has an active interest in quantitative light microscopy of live cells and tissues. He likes mathematics and science in general.
Outside the lab, Scott enjoys pottery and entertaining his cats.

Ian Newton
Scientific Officer
Cell and Developmental Biology
+44 (0)1382 388425
Ian is the laboratory manager and research assistant. He is involved in most of the group’s research projects and coordinates our social activities. He is an expert in anything involving proteins and DNA.
Outwith the lab, he enjoys time with his family, the mountains, badminton, cycling, photography, gardening and holidays!
