Photoinduced Assembly of C–N Bonds. The first part of the presentation will illustrate the work my group has carried exploring the reactivity of nitrogen radicals for the assembly of C–N bonds. This includes C–H amination of aromatics, olefin diamination and dehydrogenative aniline synthesis. This will include a discussion of the key mechanistic aspects related to the reactivity of nitrogen radicals as well as their synthetic implications.

Photoinduced Assembly of C–C Bonds. The second part of the talk will discuss the development of an alternative strategy for C-radical formation from alkyl and aryl halides. This will illustrate the unique ability of a-aminoalkyl radicals to undergo halogen-transfer reactions and how this can be used in synthetic chemistry.
