To mark the 75th anniversary of the Wellcome Trust and the influence that funding from the Trust has had on the economical and social development of the City of Dundee, the Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression is hosting a Symposium and Exhibition bringing together scientists, artists, designers and historians from the city to investigate new ways of portraying the city’s changing identity across 75 years though a number of collaborative Sci-Art project.

Two guest speakers will present from the international Arts community: Martha Fleming from the Centre for Arts and Humanities Research at the Natural History Museum, (London) and Rob LaFrenais, Director of The Arts Catalyst, (London), which has a remit of experimentally and critically engaging with science. Two speakers from Dundee will be Angus Lamond, Director of the Wellcome Trust Centre for gene Regulation and Expression, who will outline our vision for the project and Stephen Partridge, Dean of Research at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.

The Centre has also commissioned a performance art piece for the event, to be delivered by Pernille Spence, in which she will be collaborating with Dr. Sonia Rocha from the Wellcome Centre.

It is hoped that the interactions thus fomented will lead to a creative collaboration across the science and arts disciplines, allowing us to develop a joint project in which many different communities in Dundee can participate. Projects and collaborations conceived at the events will be tracked and submitted as part of the Centre’s celebration of the WellcomeTrust’s 80th anniversary in 2016.
