We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the impact of mRNA cap regulation on T cell function.

We have recently been awarded an ERC grant to study how the mRNA cap is regulated in T cells to control cell function and fate. The new postdoc will investigate the impact of the different capping enzymes on gene expression in T cells. Specifically, the postdoc will investigate how the mRNA capping enzymes are regulated in T cells, the direct impact of the capping enzymes on transcription, RNA processing and translation using the latest sequencing and proteomics technologies, and the impact of the capping enzymes on T cell activation and function.

The mRNA cap is an important but poorly understood structure which recruits the enzymes and co-factors involved in RNA processing and translation initiation. In the Cowling lab, we have discovered mechanisms by which mRNA cap formation is regulated by oncogenes, signalling pathways and developmental pathways, resulting in changes in transcription and translation, which impact on cellular fate and function. The enzymes which catalyse mRNA cap synthesis are emerging as integrators of cellular signals which govern cell physiology and fate.

The new postdoc will join our lab at the Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression, University of Dundee, UK. We strive to understand the function of mRNA cap regulation in mammals, in health and disease, working in T cells, embryonic stem cells and cancer cell systems. This position would suit a researcher with experience in adaptive immunity and/or gene expression research including transcriptomic analyses.

This position is available for 3 years in the first instance.
