Postdoctoral research assistant position in the laboratory of Professor Daan van Aalten FRSE to elucidate the mechanisms of a novel type of intellectual disability.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position to work in the multidisciplinary laboratory of Daan van Aalten, where we aim to elucidate fundamental mechanisms of the O-GlcNAc posttranslational modification in development and neurodegeneration/development. This position is funded by a prestigious 5-year Investigator Award from the Wellcome Trust. The group has recently discovered a new neurodevelopmental syndrome leading to intellectual disability in young children, linked to mutations in the O-GlcNAc transferase (PubMed IDs 28584052, 29606577 plus several manuscripts in preparation). We work together with clinicians to understand genotype-phenotype links and are pursuing underpinning biological mechanisms.

The successful applicant will work on developing models of this disorder in Drosophila using CRISPR/Cas9.

This position is available for 18 months at 100% in the first instance. Starting date early 2019. In parallel, applicants will be encouraged to apply for personal postdoctoral fellowships, assistance & mentoring will be provided to complete these.

Closing Date 15th January 2019
