How To Acknowledge Us

It is a requirement of the grants that support central imaging that sources of funding are acknowledged. Different areas of the facility are funded by various grants.  Please see below for a list of sources of funding and suggested text.

Imaging

  • Equipment and staff in the light microscopy facility are supported by two main grants from the Wellcome Trust and MRC. We ask all users of the microscopy facility to include the following text in their Acknowledgements:- “We would like to acknowledge (Name/s of staff who supported your work at) the Dundee Imaging Facility, Dundee, which is supported by the 'Wellcome Trust Technology Platform' award [097945/B/11/Z] and the 'MRC Next Generation Optical Microscopy' award [MR/K015869/1]"
  • Image analysis support is funded by the MRC NGOM grant, and we ask those who have received help and advice in this area to include the following text in their acknowledgements:- “We would like to acknowledge the Dundee Imaging Facility, Dundee, for image analysis support, which is funded by the 'MRC Next Generation Optical Microscopy' award [MR/K015869/1].”
  • OMX super-resolution microscopy is funded by the MRC NGOM award, and we ask those who have used the OMX system to include the following text in their acknowledgements:- “Use of the OMX microscope was funded by an MRC Next Generation Optical Microscpy Award [MR/K015869/1].”
  • The Tissue Imaging Facility is funded by a Wellcome Trust award, and we ask those who have used the Tissue Imaging Facility to include the following text in their acknowledgements:- "We would like to acknowledge the Tissue Imaging Facility, Dundee, which is funded by a Wellcome Trust award [101468/Z/13/Z].”

X-Ray Facility

  • The X-ray Facility is funded by a Wellcome Trust award, and we ask those who have used the Facility to include the following text in their acknowledgements:- "We would like to acknowledge the X-ray Crystallography Facility at the University of Dundee, which is supported by The Wellcome Trust (award no. 094090)."

Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting

The facility and its staff should be acknowledged in one of four ways:

  • Where the flow cytometers within the facility have been used by research staff as part of the project, but without the direct input by facility staff, the minimum requirement is that the University of Dundee School of Life Sciences Flow Cytometry Facility should be acknowledged as follows: "We would like to acknowledge the Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Facility at the University of Dundee".
  • Where a specific member of Flow Cytometry Facility staff has processed samples and/or analysed data for inclusion in a publication, that member of staff should be acknowledged as well as the facility “We would like to acknowledge (Name/s of staff who supported your work) of the Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Facility at the University of Dundee".
  • Where cell sorting has been performed, both the facility manager and technician performing the sorting should be acknowledged, as well as the facility and f. It should also be acknowledged that the cell sorter was purchased on a Wellcome Trust Personal Research Fellowship awarded to Doreen Cantrell, as follows: "We would like to acknowledge (Name/s of staff who supported your work) of the Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Facility at the University of Dundee for cell sorting, which is supported by the Wellcome Trust (097418/Z/11/Z)."
  • Where a member of facility staff has had considerable input into the experimental design, data interpretation, and presentation, or has developed an assay for use within a study this assistance should be merited by co-authorship.

Proteomics

The facility and its staff should be acknowledged in one of three ways:

  • If any resource (e.g. use of mass spectrometry, preparation of samples or use of software for data analysis) for a publication has been provided by the proteomics facility the minimum requirement is that the FingerPrints Proteomics Facility is acknowledged as follows: “We would like to acknowledge the FingerPrints Proteomics Facility at the University of Dundee”.
  • Where a specific member of the Proteomics Facility has processed samples, generated mass spectrometry data, and/or analysed data for inclusion in a publication, that member of staff should be acknowledged as well as the facility “We would like to acknowledge (Name/s of staff who supported your work) of the Fingerprints Proteomics Facility at the University of Dundee".
  • Where a member of proteomics facility staff has had considerable input into the experimental design, data interpretation, and presentation, or has developed a mass spectrometry based assay for use within a particular study then this assistance should be merited by co-authorship.

Please also familiarise yourself with the School of Life Science's guidelines for acknowledgement and co-authorship:

IN EVERY CASE: If research submitted for publication makes use of a facility or service, the minimum requirement is that the Facility is specifically acknowledged in the acknowledgements section of the manuscript with relevant grant reference numbers. IN MOST CASES: If a particular member of staff from a Facility has provided support through routine training, sample preparation or guidance in data acquisition or analysis, the individual AND the facility should be acknowledged in the acknowledgement section of the manuscript with grant reference numbers.  IN SOME CASES: If a member of staff from a Facility makes a significant contribution to research submitted for publication, this will likely merit co-authorship in the author line of the manuscript.
