The Graduate Diploma (Overseas) in Human Anatomy degree is an innovative one-year programme of study providing a solid foundation in human gross anatomy, human developmental osteology and comparative osteology.
This modular programme is taught over two semesters: in semester 1 there are modules in gross anatomy (Gross Anatomy 1: thorax, abdomen, pelvis, lower limb) and Comparative Osteology and in semester 2 a further module in gross anatomy (Gross Anatomy 2: head and neck, upper limb, back) and Human Developmental Osteology. All modules have a large practical component supplemented by lectures, small group discussions and tutorials. Each module is assessed by coursework submissions (essay, poster, seminar presentation) and degree examinations (written, practical), both contributing towards the final module grade. During the academic year students will develop subject-specific and key transferable skills.
Throughout the academic year students will study alongside those on the Anatomical Sciences, joint Anatomical and Physiological Sciences, and Forensic Anthropology degree programmes.
Students graduating from the programme with the an upper second class honours degree will be able to apply for further postgraduate study (MSc, MRes) within the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification.
The Graduate Diploma (Overseas) in Human Anatomy programme is run in the College of Life Sciences and commences in September 2009. The programme is capped at 10 students, who will benefit from a recently refurbished anatomy laboratory and access to human material. Instruction will be by staff experienced in teaching anatomy and active in research.
Applicants must already have or expect to gain a first degree in a life sciences or related discipline and must be able to demonstrate a high standard of English.
