If you are using a personal Windows 7 or Windows Vista machine you may find that it does not by default allow you to access network file shares.
LSC supplied Windows 7 machines do not require any of these modifications.
Windows 7
- Run (Windows Key + R) "regedit"
- Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa"
- If "LmCompatibilityLevel" is missing:
- Right-Click on "LSA" in the folders window on the left
- Select Edit \ New \ "DWORD (32 bit)" Value \
- Name this "LmCompatibilityLevel"
- Double-click "LmCompatibilityLevel"
- Set the value to "1"
- Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0"
- Double-click "NtlmMinClientSec"
- Set the value to "0"
- Double-click "NTLMMinServerSec"
- Set the value to "0"
- Close down regedit and reboot
Windows Vista
Please note that Windows Vista is not supported, however you should be able to connect to file shares as follows:
- Run (Windows Key + R) "secpol.msc"
- Navigate to "Local Policies" -> "Security Options"
- Change the value of the policy "Network Security - LAN Manager authentication level" from "NTLMv2 responses only" to "LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
