Aim
To provide and maintain standard Windows desktop PCs, software applications and required peripheral devices for Life Sciences staff and postgraduate students, to enable access and use of standard and appropriate specialist software.
Service Description
LSC maintains over 750 Windows desktop PCs and associated networked printers for use by College staff and students. Software support is provided for a range of office and specialist desktop applications.
User Responsibilities
- Report all faults promptly to LSC via web form if available, alternatively by phone or email. Provide as much information as possible including identification of the equipment (asset or equipment number) and the application being used.
- Read supplied documentation and follow good practice guidelines.
- Be responsible for back up of local drives and data.
- Be aware that installing additional software on top of the standard desktop build may have an unexpected effect. In this event LSC will erase and re-image the system partition to restore the standard build.
Service Targets
- Provide new members of staff with a standard networked desktop system and familiarisation session in its use from their first working day, subject to advance notice being received by LSC
- Respond to problems within 1 working day of notification.
- Provide priority support where deemed necessary based on business need.
- Provide a temporary replacement within 1 working day of reported PC failure.
- Make available personal and shared networked disk space and ensure that this is centrally backed up.
- Maintain desktop specification at a level compatible with user requirements (subject to funding constraints).
- Maintain hardware maintenance contracts or extended warranty arrangements for standard desktop systems.
