2X Client

Overview

The 2X client allows you to access applications installed on a number of servers. Its main purpose is to give you access to applications which are either classed as 'legacy' (it does not run on modern Operating Systems), or its deployment to local desktops is difficult and therefore it is easier to manage centrally.

The client can be used either while in the College network, or when using the VPN.

It is already available on current desktop and laptop images provided by the University, although if it isn't it can be deployed to your workstation.

Installation

If you are using a standalone computer in the College, or perhaps a personal computer with a VPN connection, you can download the 2X Client from this URL:

http://www.2x.com/applicationserver/downloadlinks.html

Clients are available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android.

Note that when you install it on Windows, click 'No' when prompted about the Single SignOn component.

Running the client for the first time

The first time you use the 2X Client, you may be prompted to create a new connection. All you need to enter is the following:

  • Primary Connection: 2x.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk
  • Username: Your LSD username
  • Password: Your LSD password
  • Domain: LIFESCI

Please untick 'Save Password' if you are using a personal computer.

Upon the first successful connection, the remainder of the settings will be downloaded, and you will be shown the applications for which you have access.

Setup scripts for some applications

Some applications, such as the Purchasing Card Transaction log, need to have some Windows settings applied before using them for the first time - or if you are having problems using the application. If this is the case, there will be a "Setup X", e.g. Setup Coda, program that you should run before using the application.
