Digital Signage

The College runs the Xibo multi-display, multi-zone, fully scheduled digital signage solution. Users wishing to schedule time on these displays should log a call with the helpdesk.

Those wishing to display powerpoint files should ensure they meet the following requirements.

  • The screens work in widescreen format, so all powerpoint files should be scaled to a 16:9 ratio. In Powerpoint 2010 this can be accomplished by going to Design > Page Setup and selecting "On-screen Show (16:9) under "Slides sized for:"
  • Files should be saved in either ppt, pps, or pptx format. Other formats are not currently supported.
  • Slide shows should be set up so that they loop continuously. In Powerpoint 2010 this is done by going to Slide Show > Set Up Slide Show and clicking "Loop Continuously until 'Esc'".
  • Individual slides should be set to transition automatically after a certain period. Xibo will not advance these slides, so failure to set this will result in a slideshow that will not move on slides.
  • File sizes should be kept to a minimum where possible. Normal causes for large file sizes are pictures that have been imported and scaled to size and not compressed. An easy fix in Powerpoint 2010 is to click on a picture, then go to Format > Compress Pictures. Untick "Apply only to this picture" and select the Screen option under "Target Output".
