The SLS PhD programme is hosted within the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, and is structured to maximise effective guidance and mentoring. Projects are offered within each of our Research Divisions and may also involve a bespoke training programme. This programme is particularly well suited for students who are interested in a particular field of research or who wish to train with a specific supervisor.

Please note that funding for these projects is not guaranteed unless specifically stated.  Refer to details for individual projects listed under this programme to find out if funding is available and any eligibility criteria that may apply.  Informal enquires to individual Principal Investigators are welcome anytime.

All students participating in our postgraduate studies will benefit from:

  • PhD projects in laboratories run by internationally renowned scientists in the top ranked University in the UK for Biological Sciences (REF 2014)
  • Structured training and mentoring programme
  • Full access to postgraduate training programme and ‘Generic Skills’

Professional development of our postgraduate students is an integral part of the programme and is supported through generic skills workshops at the School of Life Sciences.  These workshops are designed to equip students with an appropriate range of professional and scientific skills.  All postgraduates also have access to optional training such as “Personal Effectiveness and Career Development”, “Finance, Business and Marketing” and “Project Management and Statistics” through Talent and Development Dundee. The depth and breadth of this programme allows the participant to tailor the training to their own specific requirements.

All students will present their work regularly, including at annual School and wider cohort-based retreats.
