    Professor Mike Ferguson CBE, Regius Professor of Life Sciences and Academic Lead for Research Strategy in the School was awarded a Doctor of Science (DSc) in today’s winter graduation at the University of St. Andrews. Professor Dame Sue Black OBE, Director of the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification and the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science was honoured alongside Professor Ferguson. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Medicine (MD). Professor Ferguson is photographed with University of St Andrews Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sally Mapstone.

    The University of Dundee is the world’s most influential pharmaceuticals research institution, according to a major global survey that places it ahead of the likes of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California Berkeley.

    The University of Dundee has been awarded £7.9 million by the Wellcome Trust for a joint project with GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) to boost efforts to find new drugs to treat some of the world’s most devastating parasitic diseases including visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis, and Chagas’ disease. These neglected diseases cause substantial suffering and an estimated 60,000 deaths annually world-wide.

    The University of Dundee has been awarded £13.6 million by Wellcome to establish a new research centre to tackle some of the world’s most devastating diseases. The Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research (CAIR) builds on world-leading work at the University’s School of Life Sciences to find new drugs to treat neglected tropical diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and leishmaniasis.
