The Drug Discovery Unit at the University of Dundee has been awarded “Project of the Year, 2014” by the not-for-profit organisation, Medicines for Malaria Venture for their work on the new potential anti-malaria compound “DDD107498 – The Compound with Muscle”.
The discovery of the compound was recently published in the journal Nature and has been selected as a preclinical candidate by MMV and recently partnered with the pharmaceutical company Merck Serono.
The MMV project of the year award was established in 2001 to recognise the most exciting drug discovery and development projects in the MMV portfolio and acknowledge the scientific partners involved. Each project is selected by MMV’s independent Expert Scientific Advisory Committee. MMV projects are subject to rigorous industry–style management and the annual award is given to one that meets the organisations demanding product profiles, has made rapid progress and has achieved its project milestones.
