Zebrafish image takes data publication software viral

On Monday, the JCB DataViewer, a resource that publishes original image data associated with scientific publications, published an image of a whole zebrafish embryo recorded with an electron microscope, at a resolution of 1.6 nm.

The JCB DataViewer is built and run by Glencoe Software, from offices within CLS, using open source technology developed by the OME team at Dundee.

Since Monday, this resource has gone viral, sustaining roughly 300 hits/sec since Tuesday morning, and many tens of thousands of unique visitors to the site.It is on major news outlets (enter "281 gigapixel" into Google), and all over Twitter:
