Professor Daan van Aalten, of the College of Life Sciences, Division of Molecular Microbiology has been named the joint recipient of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Dextra Laboratories Carbohydrate Award along with Stuart Haslam from Imperial College. The award, sponsored by Dextra, consists of a silver medal and a cash prize and the recipient is invited to give a lecture at a Royal Society of Chemistry meeting to be held in Liverpool this Autumn (15-16 Sept 2011).
Professor Daan van Aalten said, “It is an honour to receive this prestigious award and a testament to the hard work of everyone in my research group”.
In response to the announcement, Professor Tracy Palmer, Head of the Division said, “Daan has been running an extremely successful research programme in sugar signalling and fungal cell wall glycobiology for a number of years and it is very fitting that the Royal Society of Chemistry Carbohydrate Group have chosen to honour him in this way.”
Previous winners of the award include CLS’s Dr. Andrei Nikolaev who was the recipient in 2006.
