    Congratulations to Professor Ron Hay, the recipient of the 2012 Novartis Medal and Prize. This is the third consecutive year that the Novartis Prize has been awarded to a CLS scientist; Angus Lamond was the recipient of the prize for 2011 and Grahame Hardie in 2010. Previous winners of the Prize from the College of Life Sciences also include Sir Philip Cohen who gave the Novartis Medal Lecture in Warwick in 1992.

    The Wellcome Image Awards 2011 were announced at a ceremony at the Wellcome Collection in London on Wednesday, 23rd February 2011. The 21 winning images are the most visually striking, technically excellent and informative images that have been acquired by the Wellcome Images picture library in the past sixteen months. Among the 21 winning images was Chromosome lifetime map by the Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation and Expressions’ David Lleres.

    Professor Daan van Aalten, of the College of Life Sciences, Division of Molecular Microbiology has been named the joint recipient of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Dextra Laboratories Carbohydrate Award along with Stuart Haslam from Imperial College. The award, sponsored by Dextra, consists of a silver medal and a cash prize and the recipient is invited to give a lecture at a Royal Society of Chemistry meeting to be held in Liverpool this Autumn (15-16 Sept 2011).

    The University's Volunteering Fair took place on 23 February 2011 at the Bonar Hall with over 50 local, national and international organisations promoting their volunteering and work experience opportunities, including the British Heart Foundation, Guide Dogs, Save the Children and Sue Ryder.

    Dr. John Rouse, a Programme Leader at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Protein Phosphorylation Unit in the College of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee has been awarded the 2011 Tenovus Medal. The Tenovus Medal Lecture has been presented annually at the University of Glasgow since 1992 and is awarded each year to a scientist under the age of 40 with a Scottish link whose work has had a major impact on the field of cancer.
