The Division of Molecular Medicine (DMM) is based in the College of Life Sciences complex at the University of Dundee but is a cross-college translational research division closely linked to the College of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing.

DMM is a truly multidisciplinary research division, bringing biologists and clinicians together with physicists and chemists with the aim of translating our basic science discoveries into new medicines for the treatment of skin disease. DMM is part of a £6m translational medicine infrastructure initiative funded by the University of Dundee.

The College of Life Sciences has about 900 staff and research students. In the 2008 research assessment exercise, Life Sciences in Dundee was ranked 5th in the UK and 1st in Scotland.

Biomedical research at Dundee has a major impact on the local economy by stimulating the regional biotechnology industry which currently accounts for 16% of the local economy. The research outputs also have international impact as a result of collaborations with the world’s major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies aimed at diseases such as cancer, diabetes, infectious disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and specifically within DMM, skin disease.

Our research benefits from the wider support structure of the Colleges of Life Sciences and Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing which provide centralised services for the scientific community. This includes specialised core equipment including facilities for proteomics/mass spectrometry, light & electron microscopy, a central facility for biological waste sterilisation and disposal, media preparation, glass washing and sterilisation, DNA sequencing, DNA cloning service, antibody production facility, high-throughput chemical & siRNA library screening, and custom chemical synthesis of small molecules.
