Frank Sargent is a principal investigator in the Division of Molecular Microbiology within the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee.

Work in this research group concentrates on the molecular biology of bacterial respiration and fermentation. Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica and Serratia marcescens are related bacteria that display versatile metabolic capabilities. These bacteria can grow under a range of different environmental conditions, including anaerobically, and on a range of different nutrient sources, including complex substrates such as chitin.
