International Summer School in Gene Regulation

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression at the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee is seeking talented students who wish to gain hands-on experience in world-class laboratories working in the area of gene regulation.

The Summer School is designed to provide students with an introduction to research in this exciting scientific field. Students will participate in core laboratory activities under the direction of our leading life science researchers and will have access to the cutting-edge technologies available to characterise proteins and nucleic acids, that are transforming life sciences research. These include proteomics, fluorescence microscopy and genomics.

Research areas covered will include:

  • Chromosome Segregation
  • Transcription
  • DNA repair
  • DNA replication
  • DNA damage
  • RNA and chromatin mediated regulation

Core course components will be covered in July 2012, with the option to extend individual projects as required (with a minimum duration of 10 weeks).

We would strongly advise candidates to make applications to directly to funding bodies wherever possible (for example the Wellcome Trust offer Biomedical Vacation Scholarships and ERASMUS) however there are currently 6 funded Studentships available within GRE which will be allocated on a competitive basis - 5 James Black Vacation Prize Fellowships and 1 Lister Summer Studentship in the Blow Lab.
