Juan José Bonfiglio is currently working as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie supported Postdoc at the Max Planck Institutefor Biology of Ageing, Cologne, Germany, in the lab of Dr. Ivan Matic.

 

During his postdoc he has been working on one of the immediate responses upon DNA damage: the protein post-translational modification ADP-ribosylation and uncovered a new signaling pathway for this modification (Nat Chem Bio 2016) and described its biochemical basis by identifying its “writers” (Molecular Cell 2017) and “eraser” (eLife 2017). He has also shown that this is a widespread modification (Molecular Cell 2017). 

 

As there are no adequate tools to study ADP-ribosylation at the molecular level, Juan has developed a method to generate ADP-ribosylated peptides. He has been able to generate the first site-specific ADPr antibodies (unpublished results). 

 

Juan is visiting us to explore the possibility of setting up a laboratory in Dundee and will give a seminar about his research and future plans.
