Recent technological advancements have brought single-cell genomics from an expensive niche to a rapidly expanding - widely hyped - field in its own right. Single-cell genomics opens many exciting avenues for research, but the profusion of platforms and methods may foster confusion in researchers interested in making use of these technologies to study biological systems. This talk will provide an overview of currently available technologies and data analysis approaches and how these can be applied to answer biological questions, drawing on examples from our work at EMBL-EBI. Finally, I will discuss where the field might be heading and what challenges and opportunities may arise.
